The last musical play I watched locally was probably eons ago. Thanks to Ensogo and to my online group buying site fanatic buddy, Claire Lopez, for purchasing tickets online to the premiere of Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Meralco Theater brought to us by Atlantis Productions.

The Little Mermaid at the Meralco Theater glided me down memory lane of my childhood days as I watched the characters trill popular Disney hits Under the Sea, Kiss the Girl and one of my personal favorites, Part of Your World.
I also love Jinky Llamanzares' portayal of the evil sea witch Ursula and her rendition of I Want the Good Times Back. Her solo performances throughout the musical elicited nothing but ceaseless cheers from the crowd. Her powerful voice, reverberating in the theater, coupled with her devilish black costume with glow-in-the-dark tentacles and performances from her two alligator minions dressed in glow-in-the-dark costumes really brought down the house. For me, other topnotch performers also include OJ Mariano as Sebastian; Calvin Millado as King Triton and Julienne Mendoza as Chef Louis. Other casts include: Erik Santos as Prince Erik; Lee Villoria as Flounder; Jamie Barcelon as Jetsam; Raymond Concepcion as Grimsby and Enrique Canoy as Scuttle.
In terms of production aspects, The Little Mermaid may not be as grand as other Broadway musicals with harnesses and digital visuals, but it is in NO WAY substandard. Its exquisite puppetry, costumes, choreography, musical arrangement and talents shall I say, compensate for the lack of hi-tech visuals and special effects.
Directed by Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga, The Little Mermaid is a MUST-SEE Musical. You still have a few more days to catch it until December 11.
I've noticed at the lobby that Atlantis Productions will also be bringing the musical play Shrek in the country sometime early next year. This is something that I am really looking forward to. I'll get my tickets, with or without any group buying site. :)
